‘Always Remembered’ marks the centenary of the Menin Gate Memorial, one of the world's most enduring symbols of remembrance. Through visits to memorials, cemeteries and historic sites across Belgium and France, we will explore how nations have remembered those who never came home and why that remembrance still matters today.

Departure

Journey to Ypres
Following breakfast* on board, travel from the Netherlands and through the battlefields of Flanders towards Ypres. En-route, stop for lunch* and visit the Brothers in Arms Memorial and Black Watch Corner, a site closely connected to Scotland's wartime story. Arrive at your hotel for the next 4 nights in Ypres and enjoy dinner* and free time.
Memorial Architecture
Today's theme explores Memorial Architecture and how the dead of the Great War have been commemorated. Visits include Polygon Wood, Perth Cemetery, Zillebeke Cemetery and the Railway Dugouts Burial Ground. Following lunch at the Hooge Museum, we visit Hooge Cemetery before attending the moving Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. Free time and dinner* in Ypres.
National Memorials
Explore our theme of National Memorials as we travel into France. Visits include the CWGC Museum and Workshop in Arras, the German Cemetery at Neuville-Saint-Vaast, the French Cemetery at Notre-Dame de Lorette, and the Indian and Portuguese Memorials at Neuve-Chapelle, highlighting different approaches to remembrance across the former battlefields. Free time and dinner* in Ypres.

Remembrance
Explore our theme of Remembrance and how memory has evolved over the past century. Visits include St George's Memorial Church, the Cloth Hall Museum, Poperinge Town Hall and the historic Execution Post, before a once in a lifetime dining experience, with entertainment at the remarkable Talbot House.
Return Journey
Depart Ypres and travel to Amsterdam with lunch* en route, then the overnight ferry to Newcastle with dinner and breakfast* served on board and comfortable cabins.
Homeward Bound
Return to Scotland with arrival in Edinburgh approximately 2pm.
MTI are fully compliant with Package Travel Regulations 2018 by using Protected Trust Services which ringfences funds securely up until the tour date, and only releases funds upon return. With this assurance in place, MTI are not ABTA/ATOL members.

All travellers will require their own Passport and GHIC card. Any non UK, non-Irish travellers may require an ETA.

We would suggest including toiletries, essential medications, phone chargers, a change of clothes, and PJs if for on the overnight ferry.
Our tour itineraries are carefully designed to provide an immersive, comprehensive look back at the history whilst making the most of your time with us. We recognise it is a busy few days, and so the evenings are yours to explore and enjoy your way.
There is no specific limit. However, you may need to carry all your belongings a short distance from the coach drop off point to your accommodation, so please bear this in mind!
We may be able to collect from en route to our ferry departure point. Please contact our team if you would like more information.
All coaches are fitted with seatbelts for safety, and a toilet for emergency use. There will be AV equipment that your guide will use during your trip. Not all coaches have USB charging ports.
We welcome anyone on our tours to let us know of any relatives who are buried or commemorated at any of the sites on the itinerary. The information you provide will be shared with your guide, who will make efforts to research the relative(s) and gather any additional information in time for the tour. We will do our best to arrange a visit to the site(s) where the relatives are buried or commemorated. However, please note that this will depend on time, traffic, and weather conditions.
